The Edmonton Oilers' goaltending situation has been a hotly debated topic among fans and analysts alike. With Stuart Skinner's inconsistent performances, the question arises: should the Oilers trade him, or is there more to consider?
Skinner, at just 26 years old, has shown glimpses of brilliance, like his recent overtime win against Chicago. However, his overall record this season, with a .900 save percentage and a 2.52 goals against average, leaves room for improvement.
The idea of trading Skinner to upgrade the position has been floated, but is it the right move? Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed this very dilemma on Daily Faceoff LIVE.
Yaremchuk raises a valid point: "If the goaltending doesn't improve, is Skinner a potential trade chip? His $2.6 million cap hit might not justify a mild upgrade."
Hutton agrees, stating, "It's a tough call. Skinner takes heat, and rightly so at times, due to his inconsistent play. But trading him might show a position of weakness, and teams could take advantage. He's still young and has Stanley Cup experience."
So, is trading Skinner the answer? Or should the Oilers stick with him and hope for a turnaround?
